Charities and Other Service Activities |
|
One of the precepts of the Grange is to dispense charity. Hence, we have engaged in various charitable works and community service for the last 100 years. Here is a list of various organizations we support (you may click on the names to reach each of their respective websites): · American Diabetes Association · American Legion Boys and Girls State · Hopelink There are two charitable activities that we have supported not only with funding, but with our labor as well, for over a decade. First, some of our members, with the help of other residents of the community, have been making quilts for homeless individuals. The second is the reading incentive program.
Quilts for the Homeless This Grange has been turning old material into quilts for the homeless—these are basically sleeping bags. They go to various organizations around the area that give support to homeless individuals. The quilters guild recently wrote about this program in their newsletter; click here for a description of this activity. Donations of good, usable old blankets, and scraps of larger pieces of material are always needed. These sleeping bags are given to those who do not have a roof over their heads at night. Let's give them a reason to have warm thoughts. If you can donate material for this cause, please drop by on Tuesday mornings, or call to make arrangements to drop them off 425-398-3701.
Reading Incentive Program For over 20 years, this Grange has done a reading incentive program. Recently, this has involved giving English-Spanish dictionaries to local schools, John Muir Elementary and Woodin Elementary. We do this program in coordination with the Washington State Grange.
Other Service Activities We have other service activities in this Grange as well. For example, we provide funding for the Sammamish Valley Alliance We have been providing significant funding to the Sammamish Valley 4-H club as well. If there is a service activity that you have, especially one that which fits with our major mission (aiding the small agricultural producer) please advise us, and we will see if this is something we would be able to assist you with.
